Description:
Essentials Courses are sessions captured at past RSNA Annual Meetings. General radiologists, residents, and other subspecialists who want to review other areas of radiology may be interested in taking these online courses. Most courses include an audio-visual presentation, as well as a corresponding transcript. Essentials courses are free to members.

Objectives:
• Describe the mechanism of action of hepatobiliary agents.
• Understand the added value of hepatobiliary agents in the characterization of focal liver lesions.
• Identify the most common pitfalls and limitations of hepatobiliary agents.
• Understand the historical role of ultrasound in identifying and characterizing hypoechoic and echogenic liver lesions.
• Describe features characteristic of classic and typical "atypical" hemangiomas.
• Utilize a cost-effective imaging algorithm for management of echogenic lesions identified at ultrasound based upon ultrasound features and clinical history.
• Describe how ultrasound contrast (microbubble) enhancement patterns of differing liver lesions increase study specificity.
• Explain the role of CT and MRI in the evaluation of patients with pancreatic cancer.
• Describe important technical aspects of CT and MRI protocols in these patients.
• Identify imaging features in regard to the stage and extent of pancreatic cancer, including features that indicate non-resectability.
• Summarize the relevant role of imaging in rectal cancer.
• Discuss the clinical management of rectal cancer and how MR findings influence treatment choice.
• Explain the accuracy and pitfalls in the interpretation of staging and restaging MRI.
• Identify new treatment options and the role of imaging.
