2018 AOCMF Course - Orbital and Periorbital Fracture Management; Advanced Techniques (with HAS) is organized by AO Foundation and will be held from Aug 04 - 05, 2018 at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. The target audience for this medical event is All surgeons and surgical trainees who deal with musculoskeletal head and neck disorders concerning trauma and reconstruction, as well as congenital and acquired deformities of the craniofacial skeleton. The goal of the course is to learn the topographic anatomy of the orbit and its surgical approaches. This should enable the participant to perform sound surgical fracture treatment in that particular area. Participants learn the pros and cons of the various upper and lower eyelid incisions for optimal access to the different types of orbital fractures. In addition, the participants learn basic soft and hard tissue surgery around the orbit, including recent advances in orbital fracture management. The topics will be taught in lectures, dissections on anatomical specimens, and group discussions. The surgical procedures for approaching the orbit will be explained step by step. The lectures are followed by dissections on anatomical specimens. The faculty are there to help and assist the participants. Each participant has one side of a complete head for the exercises and one side to assist. Participants will work in pairs during the specimen sessions. Instruments, including consumables (gloves and gowns), are supplied. Each day will be wrapped up by a small group discussion of cases for the participants to internalize what has been learnt.
