OVERVIEW

Manual Therapy for the Pediatric Shoulder & Spine is organized by Summit Professional Education and will be held on Mar 21, 2027 in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States of America.

Description:
Manual therapy is an effective intervention for the pediatric population, one that is often not found in continuing education for this area of practice. The shoulder/spine region is especially susceptible to joint dysfunction and pain due to the strain of repetitive use. Hands-on interventions can help mitigate impairments and functional limitations throughout the lifespan. Both typical developing children and children withdisabilities are at a high risk for pain and dysfunction in this area and pediatric therapists are charged with prevention, treatment, and education for all ages.

This course will provide an in-depth anatomy review of the shoulder/spine complex, and address how the regions work in conjunction to maintain erect posture and allow the most efficient use of the upper extremities. Participants will learn hands-on techniques for joint mobility and soft tissuerelease of all structures involved in both regions, as well as learn how faulty mechanics can lead to pain and loss ofactivity/participation in later years. Clinicians will immediately be able to implement treatment strategies and patient/ caregiver education once they return to the clinic.

Highlights:

  • Hands-on review of cervical and shoulder anatomy and joint mechanics as it applies to the pediatric population
  • Identify specific factors that make the pediatric patient susceptible to dysfunction in these regions
  • Immediately implement manual therapy interventions to alleviate pain, correct dysfunctional jointmechanics, and improve functional mobility for yourclients
  • Hands-on lab including several joint mobility and myofascial release techniques you can implement the next day in patient care

Learning Objectives:

  1. Analyze the root cause of dysfunction in theshoulder/spine complex and how the two regions work in conjunction.
  2. Demonstrate hands-on palpation and interventions to restore normal joint mechanics and muscle turgor.
  3. Apply manual treatment techniques to impairments and functional limitations unique to the pediatric population.
