OVERVIEW

Advanced Concepts and Application for Manual Therapy of the Spine is organized by Summit Professional Education and will be held on Mar 06, 2027 in Jacksonville, Florida, United States of America.

Description:
Manual therapy has been shown to be effective in the management of multiple spinal disorders in our profession, especially in conjunction with therapeutic exercise. This course is designed to enhance manual therapy skills, confidence in performing manual therapy techniques, andgreater patient outcomes for Physical Therapists. Having uniformity of manual therapy and comfort with manual therapytechniques in our profession is a fundamental skill.

In this 6-hour lab-intensive course, mobilization and manipulation techniques from the upper cervical spine to thesacrum will be presented in a comfortable environment. Whether participants are unfamiliar with more advanced mobilization and manipulation techniques or simply seeking to sharpen their skills, this course will be useful in a high percentage of a physical therapist's outpatient caseload. This course provides extensive lab time and demonstrations, tailored for all participants. In-person attendees will benefit from frequent, personalized feedback in a relaxed setting, fostering proficiency in manual therapy techniques. Virtual participants, both synchronous and asynchronous, will receive clear, accessible demonstrations and comprehensive resources, enabling immediate application of thesetechniques in their practice.

Highlights:

This course contains advanced content which may not be relevant to PTA scope of practice in all states. Please see your State Physical Therapy Practice Act to verify this course is acceptable for continuing education.

  • The latest reseach for safety of thrust manipulation and neurological examination
  • Commonly treated patient presentations that can immediately be implemented into practice
  • Effective evidence-based treatment interventions to reduce pain and improve functionalmobility
  • Hands-on manual therapy lab practice to improve skills and variations to suit your specificneeds
  • Pairing corrective exercise with manual therapy techniques to aid in further recovery

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the evidence and skill to perform thrust mobilizations to treat common clinical disorders associated with cervical spine, thoracic spine, costovertebral junctions, lumbar spine, and sacroiliac joints.
  2. Discuss proper exercises to pair with manual therapy to aid in further recovery of the patient.
  3. Distinguish the importance of evidence-based practice and its impact on the use of manual therapy.
  4. Determine the risk factors associated with spinalmobilization and be able to screen patients properly using athorough history and targeted physical examination.
  5. Examine the mechanisms by which manual therapy affects spinal disorders including the neurophysiological effects of mobilization.
  6. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of literaturesupport for spinal mobilization in syndromes commonly treated in the outpatient setting.
