This seminar has been designed to provide a thorough overview of some of the most common problem areas of diagnostic pathology in the areas of genitourinary, gynecologic, breast, head and neck, and soft tissue pathology, with particular attention paid to the most common problems encountered by practicing pathologists. This course will provide detailed discussions of some of the most important diagnostic features which allow pathologists to make accurate diagnoses in each of these problem areas, as well as how to assess essential diagnostic clues to avoid the most common pitfalls.

In each lecture, there will be a discussion on the use of appropriate ancillary diagnostic techniques, including both immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology. In addition, some lectures will include case-based discussions including digital slides, and there will be sufficient time for interactive discussions between all of the faculty members and participants.

Attendees should, at the completion of this course, be able to:

Discuss the most common benign lipomatous tumors encountered by surgical pathologists.
Identify the most useful diagnostic features and ancillary techniques in distinguishing benign lipomatous tumor from well-differentiated liposarcoma.
Recognize the most common endometrial carcinoma subtypes and their mimics.
Describe the most important diagnostic pitfalls in diagnosing squamous lesions of the head and neck.
Identify the diagnostic thresholds in diagnosing small foci of prostate cancer.
Discuss the diagnostic challenges associated with atypical small glandular proliferations of the breast.
List the differential diagnostic features of spindle cell tumors arising in soft tissue, including use of ancillary diagnostic techniques.
Define the most important prognostic indicators in endometrial cancer.
Identify the newer advances in diagnosing neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.
Recognize the most common salivary gland neoplasms.
Explain the WHO classification of renal neoplasms and their differentiating features.
Describe the most important diagnostic features of triple-negative breast cancer
Recognize the distinguishing features between ovarian serous borderline tumors and low-grade serous carcinoma
Discuss the important diagnostic features of the array of eosinophil-rich disorders of the gastrointestinal tract
Identify the diagnostic features of the most common sinonasal tumors
Discuss the essential features of both in situ and invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast
Describe the diagnostic pitfalls associated with the spectrum of urothelial neoplasia
