Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) 2026 Annual Meeting at the AUA is organized by Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) and will be held on May 15, 2026 at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, Dist of Col, United States of America.
Educational Needs:
The SUFU at the AUA 2026 program addresses a broad range of professional practice gaps across URPS, underscoring the need for targeted education that enhances clinician knowledge, clinical competence, and real-world performance. Participants require updated training on evidence-based evaluation and management of complex conditions such as vesicovaginal fistula, interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, pelvic organ prolapse, overactive bladder, male LUTS, and voiding dysfunction. There is a critical need for improved familiarity with emerging surgical techniques, new technologies (including neuromodulation and evolving urodynamic platforms), and evolving treatment algorithms. Additionally, clinicians need support in developing stronger skills in risk–benefit counseling, patient-centered decision-making, and integration of multidisciplinary approaches. Education is also needed to address professional well-being, burnout reduction strategies, and evolving public policy issues that directly influence daily practice, including coding, billing, documentation, and regulatory compliance. Collectively, these needs reflect the necessity for comprehensive, up-to-date, and practice-oriented learning that equips clinicians to deliver safer, more effective, and guideline-aligned care to patients with pelvic floor and lower urinary tract disorders.
Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of the SUFU at the AUA 2026 Program, attendees will be able to:
- Compare vaginal and robotic approaches for vesicovaginal fistula repair with respect to outcomes and complications.
- Apply patient- and fistula-specific factors to select an appropriate surgical approach in clinical practice.
- Identify common adverse effects and serious risks associated with pharmacologic therapies for IC/BPS.
- Develop safer, evidence-based medication plans and monitoring strategies for patients with IC/BPS.
- Recognize signs and drivers of burnout specific to functional and pelvic urology practice.
- Implement at least one mindfulness or wellness strategy to support personal resilience and team well-being.
- Summarize recent advancements and outcome data for native tissue, mesh-augmented, and minimally invasive pelvic organ prolapse repairs.
- Incorporate current evidence into shared decision-making for prolapse management.
- Describe the mechanism, indications, and available evidence for implantable tibial nerve stimulation.
- Integrate implantable tibial stimulation into a treatment algorithm for patients with OAB and related conditions.
- Differentiate between traditional urodynamic studies and newer technologies (e.g., UroCuff, Glean) in terms of diagnostic value and practical use.
- Apply urodynamic findings to optimize treatment selection for patients with complex LUTS and incontinence.
- Explain the pathophysiologic interplay between BPH-related obstruction and OAB symptoms in men.
- Formulate a stepwise, evidence-based treatment plan for male patients with concurrent BPH and OAB, including when to treat the outlet vs OAB first.
- Identify recent billing and legislative changes that impact pelvic floor and functional urology practice.
- Implement strategies to improve documentation, coding accuracy, and audit preparedness in their own clinical setting.
- Summarize key findings from the most impactful URPS-related articles published in 2025.
- Incorporate at least one new evidence-based practice change from these articles into their clinical management of pelvic floor and functional urology patients.
