MT-UC: Upper Cervical Dysfunction Seminar is organized by Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Seminars (MAPS) and will be held from Sep 26 - 27, 2026 in New York, United States of America.

Description:
This 2-day course will provide the clinician (PT, PTA, AT, OT, or COTA) with the skills needed to recognize, evaluate, and treat common clinical conditions of the upper cervical spine and related upper cervical dysfunction including:

  • Cervicogenic Headaches and Dizziness
  • Concussions
  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (or BPPV), and Temporo-mandibular joint disorders (TMD) 

The assessment and treatment approach will utilize thorough clinical assessment and clinical decision making, including IFOMPT’s Cervical Arterial Dysfunction screening framework. Current literature will be presented and discussed. Live component of course is 90% Hands-On Laboratory. Course includes required Home Study component of approximately 15.6 hours.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the course participant will be able to

  • Understand the underlying anatomy, physiology, and common clinical presentation of specific cervical dysfunction conditions including cervicogenic headaches and dizziness, concussions, BPPV and TMD. Must describe the clinical presentation of at least one condition during the course. 
  • Discuss the relevant research pertaining to the management of each condition listed above.
  • Perform an accurate clinical assessment for each upper cervical dysfunction condition listed in objective #1. Must demonstrate at least one example PTAs, ATs, OTs, COTAs are limited to performing assessments through R1* but not into R2*. 
  • Perform localized graded treatment for each upper cervical dysfunction condition listed above. Requires demonstration of at least one example during laboratory. PTAs, ATs, OTs, COTAs may observe but are prohibited from performing Grades III, IV and V. 
  • Evaluate the effect of treatment upon various upper cervical dysfunction conditions. Requires demonstration of at least one example during course. PTAs, ATs, OTs, COTAs are prohibited from performing Grades III, IV and V. 
  • Prescribe relevant home exercise programs for select upper cervical conditions. Requires demonstration of at least one example during course.
