OVERVIEW

Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) Standard Level Laser Training and Certification Course (SLC) is organized by Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) and will be held on Mar 07, 2026 at DoubleTree Sacramento, Sacramento, California, United States of America.

Description:
The standard level course is considered the minimum required education level in laser dentistry for any dental professional to be able use lasers clinically on patients safely and effectively with recognized expertise level within their individual scope of practice. The course emphasizes the importance of laser safety protocols with device specific and/or wavelength instructions demonstrating a knowledge base through didactic and hands-on elements.

Laser safety protocols are of paramount importance for everyone within the dental laser practice with knowledge pertaining to devices, wavelengths, standard operating best practice principles for safe, effective and efficient execution of all laser assisted procedures for better outcomes for our patients.

Governing bodies in most countries require the presence of Laser Safety Officers (LSO) and Laser Protection Advisors (LPA) in laser practices and some of these elements will be covered with the course. The hands-on portion will familiarize and empower participants to acquire practical skills to use the laser devices safely in various clinical modalities. This course is also one of parts of a three-part ALD standard level certification. The course requires didactic scientific education and clinical case reviews as well as additional hands-on simulation ALD recommended specimen protocols for part 2 certification.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the basic principles underlying laser physics and laser-tissue interaction
  • Analyze how variations in laser wavelength, power, and temporal modes impact clinical outcomes
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge and recognize safety features of lasers through hands-on learning assessments
  • Execute practical hands-on exercises in laser-assisted dental procedures following ALD-recommended specimen protocols, under controlled supervision
  • Meet the requirements for Dental Laser Licensure through successful completion of designated coursework, and assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
  • Identify and describe clinical applications of lasers across various dental specialties
  • Assess the importance of laser safety protocols in clinical settings.
  • Utilize critical thinking to evaluate and implement best practice in laser management requirements

This program is a peer-reviewed, hands-on training, comprehensive laser certificate course for the entire dental team.
It provides candidates with a strong foundational understanding of laser physics, laser tissue interaction, characteristics of various laser wavelengths, clinical case studies, laser safety, regulatory information, and a live hands-on portion.

3-Part Certification Process:

  • PART 1 - Foundations in Laser Dentistry - Self-paced Online Digital Learning Program (6 CEU’s)
  • PART 2 - Hands-on Clinical Simulation & Training (in person)
  • PART 3 - ALD Dental Laser Standard Level Online Exam

Why Certification Matters:
The ALD Standard Certification program is peer-reviewed, has digital and in-person components, and provides hands-on training by seasoned clinicians. The comprehensive nature of this laser certificate course is designed for the entire dental team and dental schools for 3rd—and 4th-year dental students and postdocs. The examination is psychometrically validated and reviewed every three years. ALD Certification comes with a one-year ALD membership with access to videos, safety refreshers, and a host of benefits to boost any dental practice.

The ALD Group Laser Certification Program builds a strong foundational understanding of lasers and light-based technology that leads to:

  • Technique Mastery
  • Patient and Team satisfaction
  • Case Acceptance by Patients
  • New Patients
  • Standing Out as a Leader in Dentistry

Course Registration:
Once registered, access to Part 1: “Self-Paced Online Digital Learning” will be granted.
Note: Part 1 must be completed prior to Part 2: “In-Person Hands-On.”
