OVERVIEW

4th Annual Opioid Use Disorder Conference is organized by Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and will be held on Apr 15, 2026 at Baylor Medicine Jamail Specialty Care Center, Houston, Texas, United States of America.

Description:
The opioid use epidemic remains a significant public health challenge in the United States. The DEA MATE Act requires clinicians to be knowledgeable in the prescribing and management of opioid use disorder (OUD), yet many treating teams continue to face challenges balancing chronic pain management, preventing opioid over?prescription, and addressing illicit opioid use. This educational activity addresses gaps in recognizing OUD and withdrawal, applying person?first language, and accessing evidence?based treatments, including pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic approaches. Learners will also gain skills to identify barriers to medication access and appropriately refer patients for outpatient care, supporting the effective initiation and maintenance of OUD treatment.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be able to:

  • Apply treatment techniques, including pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic approaches, in managing Opioid Use Disorder.
  • Recognize barriers to accessing medication in treatment of Opioid Use Disorder treatment.
  • Recall and apply person first language, emphasizing the individual rather than the diagnosis, when interacting with patients diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibilities in reducing stigma, addressing healthcare access barriers, and delivering equitable, person-centered care to vulnerable populations affected by substance use disorders.
