Have you ever avoided AAC because you didn't know where to begin? If so, this is the course for you! This introductory course will provide an overview of the AAC process: from identification to acquisition. Participants will learn the benefits and applications of AAC (why) as well as how to identify AAC candidates (when). You will learn how to perform a comprehensive AAC assessment (how) and the ins and outs of navigating AAC funding.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- State the benefits and implications for use of AAC
- Identify potential candidates for AAC
- Identify and select appropriate assessment tools for AAC evaluation
- Outline potential steps of the funding process and state resources to initiate AAC system acquisition
- State a variety of skills to be monitored and recorded during the device trial period
- Outline essential components of an AAC evaluation
