OVERVIEW

2025 Perfusion Conference is organized by The Texas Heart Institute (THI), Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and will be held from May 29 - 31, 2025 at Denton A. Cooley Building, Houston, Texas, United States of America.

Description:
Experts in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, nursing, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support, and perfusion technology will present current best practices for patient care, focusing on the following areas: surgical and perfusion techniques for aortic aneurysms, adult congenital cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation, current techniques for organ preservation and normothermic regional perfusion, goal-directed perfusion monitoring, ECMO support for adult and pediatric patients, updates on international perfusion education, and advances in the development of the total artificial heart.

The goal of the conference is to share knowledge, skills, and techniques, creating an educational dialogue among local and international communities of cardiovascular healthcare professionals.

Symposium Purpose:

The THI 2025 Perfusion Conference is designed to provide the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of the cardiac patient with current information regarding surgical and perfusion techniques. Experts in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, and perfusion technology will participate in the conference, discussing best practices for patient care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the function of the total artificial heart, perfusion cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit, cannulation, and patient management for implantation.
  • Describe perfusion strategies to measure cerebral oxygen delivery and strategies for goal-directed perfusion.
  • Describe optimal perfusion circuit and perfusion techniques for organ transplantation and organ harvesting.
  • Describe current perfusion techniques and strategies for adult congenital heart surgery.
  • Describe current perfusion circuits and strategies for cerebral and myocardial protection for aortic aneurysm thoracic surgery.
  • Describe cannulation strategies for veno-venous (VV), veno-arterial (VA), and veno-arterial-venous (VAV) ECMO support.
