National ACLM and ABLM Mid-Year Hybrid Conference

National ACLM and ABLM Mid-Year Hybrid Conference is organized by American Board of Legal Medicine (ABLM) and will be held on Oct 21, 2022 at Embassy Suites by Hilton Oklahoma City Downtown Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States of America.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the 6-hour conference, the attendees will: 

• Understand the changes in law following the decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, No. 19-1392, 597 U.S. ___ (2022), which is a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, held that the Constitution of the United States does not confer a right to abortion, and overruled both Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), as it relates to pregnant patients’ rights under federal and state law.. 

• Know the different types of Legal Rights of Patients and Healthcare providers, including: Equality and non-discrimination; Freedom and security of the person; Personal privacy and privacy of information; Freedom of religion, belief and opinion; Freedom of expression and speech; Freedom of assembly and association; A safe environment, especially where harmful medical equipment, medicines or devices are used; Access health care; and Fair treatment in accordance with the Constitution when arrested, detained or accused; 

• Be knowledgeable about the current legal and ethical challenges when dealing with patients with chronic pain, when prescribing controlled substances, and the opioid crisis. 

• Know about the criminal conduct of medical care, and understand the 9-0 ruling, authored by Justice Stephen Breyer, that sided with Xiulu Ruan and Shakeel Kahn, (https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/21pdf/20-1410_1an2.pdf) who argued that their trials were unfair because jurors were not required to consider whether the two convicted doctors had “good faith” reasons to believe the numerous opioid prescriptions were medically valid. 

• Know the 2022 CDC opioid guidelines, and the evolving medical and legal aspects of marijuana at the federal and state levels, as well as evidence-based medical uses of THC and CBD and their side effects.
