According to excerpts from the National Board of Health and Welfare's objective statement for the specialization service in child and adolescent medicine (SOSFS 2015:8 and with similar wording in (SOSF 2021) - "The specialist competent doctor must be able to handle common and important conditions in the areas of oncology and hematology", and for that educational activity is needed in addition to clinical duty, participation in one or more courses, with follow-up in the form of a certificate of the completed course.

Overall goals
The course provides guidance to future doctors, preferably pediatricians, about when childhood cancer should be suspected. Investigation at the local hospital and at the children's oncology center to make a diagnosis and manage the common and important diseases in pediatric oncology and hematology through the care chain. The course also provides knowledge of rarer and more serious conditions within these disease groups.
