28th Annual Cool Topics in Neonatology Conference

Target Audience:

In addition to neonatologists and neonatology nurse practitioners, the Cool Topics in Neonatology Conference is open to allied health professionals as well.

Description:

As part of the 28th annual conference presented by the California Association of Neonatologists (CAN) and the AAP's District IX section, this conference will be dedicated to neonatology and perinatal medicine. The course will feature an internationally recognized faculty that will cover important clinical topics related to the management of morbidities associated with extremely low birth weight infants.


Objectives:

After taking this course, participants will be able to:

• Offer a consistent approach to assisting the parents in dealing with the trauma of an extremely preterm birth, as well as providing the support they need to care for their infant in the NICU and long-term.

• Assess the best practices for treating BPD and BPD-associated pulmonary hypertension

• Analyze the prevailing outcome data for small babies and how it affects the neurodevelopment of the small baby due to the common morbidities associated with extreme prematurity.

•Assist infants in obtaining the best outcomes through appropriate interventions and rehabilitative services.

• Describe how nutrition and body composition affect child development

CPQCC Improvement Palooza 2022


Target Audience:

This workshop is designed for multidisciplinary teams of caregivers from neonatal units such as those in the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC). Those who are involved in the management of these topics include neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, and pediatric specialists, registered nurses with ancillaries, and hospital risk management and quality improvement specialists.

Description:
This third annual Improvement Palooza is designed to help teams focus on NICU families as vital partners in their infants' care. The purpose of this session is for attendees to learn how family-centered care (FCC) leads to better NICU outcomes and improved patient and family experiences. As a part of the 2022 CAN Cool Topics in Neonatology meeting, CPQCC's Improvement Palooza 2022 is an event NICU teams not to miss as it will empower parents as integral members of the NICU team.

Objectives:
This course will prepare participants to:
• Provide parents with strategies to become knowledgeable and effective members of the NICU team.
• Create innovative strategies for partnering with families
• Find ways to advocate for young families in the NICU based on social determinants of health

• Find out how to integrate trauma informed care into your NICU.

• Discuss cultural humility with your NICU staff and promote discussion in your NICU
• Identify QI opportunities for Family Centered Care (FCC) in your NICU
