The Weill Cornell Medicine - 13^th Annual Infectious Diseases Update will tackle important and sometimes controversial clinical issues with the goal of improving patient care through enhancing the performance of clinicians.

• The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on the fact that the United States is not well prepared for future pandemics. Clinicians should be aware of how modeling and other methods can guide preparations.
• The incidence of non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections is increasing, and these infections can be challenging to manage. Infectious disease practitioners and others seeing patients with these types of soft tissue infections are in need of up to date treatment information to improve patient outcomes.
• Monoclonal antibodies directed against HIV are likely to become part of the armamentarium for HIV prevention and treatment in the future. Clinicians should be aware of the current status of these investigational approaches.
• There are approximately 2000 new cases of malaria in the U.S., primarily in travelers and immigrants returning from endemic regions. Malaria is usually at the top of the differential diagnosis of fever in returning travelers from many parts of the world. It is important for clinicians to understand the current approaches to preventing and treating this infection.
• Infection is a potentially devastating complication of total hip and knee replacement surgeries, which are increasingly common in our aging population. Clinicians should have up to date knowledge of the approach to managing these important infections.
