International Network for Fatty Acid Oxidation Research and Management (INFORM) 2018 Symposium is organized by Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and will be held from Sep 02 - 03, 2018 at Divani Caravel Hotel, Athens, Attica, Greece. The target audience for this medical event is Researchers, pediatricians, internists and specialists in inherited metabolic diseases, nurses, dietitians and nutritionists, genetic counselors, scientists, INFORM members, and all other healthcare professional involved in diagnosing or managing disorders of the carnitine cycle and of fatty acid oxidation. Course Description: Disorders of fatty acid oxidation and of the carnitine cycle are an important cause of morbidity and mortality. With the introduction of expanded newborn screening, many of these conditions can be diagnosed and treated at birth, preventing several of the complications. Treatment of these conditions may include fasting-avoidance, diets low in fat containing specific fatty acids, and carnitine supplements. New types of therapies, nutritional and pharmacological, are being tested in humans and animal models of these conditions. Unfortunately, treatment is only partially effective for some conditions and we still do not understand completely the pathophysiology of end-organ damage caused by these inherited disorders. The objective of the conference is to make the audience familiar with recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of disorder of fatty acid oxidation and of the carnitine cycle. The conference will discuss the proper diagnostic interpretation of laboratory testing, development of new therapeutic strategies, and on the role of newborn screening in preventing complications. It will also serve as the annual meeting of INFORM Learning Objectives: After attending the conference, participants will be able to: Identify disorders of the carnitine cycle and of fatty acid oxidation. Be familiar with biochemical and molecular technology used to confirm the diagnosis of fatty acid oxidation disorders Identify markers that enable pre- symptomatic diagnosis by newborn screening of fatty acid oxidation disorders Understand controversies in the management of disorders of the carnitine cycle and of fatty acid oxidation. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Nuclear receptors and biological networks is organized by European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and will be held from Sep 11- 15, 2018 at Avra Imperial, Chania, Crete, Greece. Conference Description : Nuclear receptors (NRs) constitute a unique group of transcription factors that play an important role in a wide variety of developmental, physiological and pathological processes and have become important drug targets in many diseases. These receptors regulate transcription in response to small lipophilic biomolecules such as hormones, lipid metabolites, bile acids, heme and xenobiotic compounds thereby functioning as key mediators linking metabolism and external signals to transcriptional regulation. The ability to directly regulate NRs by small molecules makes these transcription factors ideal targets for disease management as well as for mechanistic and system-wide studies of transcription. This workshop on Nuclear Receptors and Biological Networks continues the very successful EMBO NR conference series. The overall objective of this meeting series is to ensure a European meeting point for current and up-and-coming scientists in the broader field of NRs. The specific objective for the 2018 meeting is to highlight the importance of novel systems approaches for the study of NR functions and to emphasize how NRs constitute excellent tools in systems biology. To facilitate this cross-fertilization of fields, we have invited outstanding speakers with different scientific interests in the NR field as well as world-leading experts in systems approaches. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

DNA replication, chromosome segregation and fate decisions Workshop is organized by European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and will be held from Sep 17 - 21, 2018 at Grecotel Olympia Riviera & Aqua Park, Kyllini, West Greece, Greece. Description: DNA replication and chromosome segregation must be strictly regulated and coordinated in the cell cycle, to ensure the maintenance of genome integrity across evolution. Significant progress has been made in recent years to decipher the interplay of these critical cellular processes, helped by successful biochemical reconstitution of key steps and technological advances such as single-molecule biophysical analyses, genome-wide chromatin analyses, high-resolution imaging and cryoelectron microscopy. Bringing together scientists working with eukaryotes, bacteria, and archaea, and employing complementary methodological approaches, this EMBO Workshop aims to decipher the common pathways which ensure genome maintenance during the cell division cycle of all organisms and how they may affect cell fate choices. In addition to invited speakers, several speakers will be selected from abstracts. Topics will include: • Replication origins • Replisome structure and function • Replication-transcription collisions and arrested forks • Replication timing • DNA and chromosome dynamics • A 3D nuclear organization, chromatin structure, and epigenetic regulation • Chromosome condensation and cohesion • Chromosome segregation mechanisms and regulation • Coordination of replication and segregation • Links with cell fate choices Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
