Techniques for Mammary Gland Research is organized by European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and will be held during Mar 04 - 09, 2018 at EMBL Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The target audience for this medical event is PhD students, post-docs and other scientists entering the field of mammary gland biology and breast cancer or those who wish to complement their knowledge using mouse or human methods. The mammary epithelium is a unique organ in that the majority of its development occurs postnatally. This, combined with ease of experimental access and a stereotypical growth pattern, make it an ideal tissue for studying cellular homeostasis, branching morphogenesis, hormonal effects, stem cell biology and breast cancer. This theoretical and practical course will present techniques for the dissection and dissociation of different subpopulations of both mouse and human mammary, including stem/progenitor, cells. It will also include flow cytometry to separate single cell populations for the consequent in vitro (mammosphere and 3D cultures) and in vivo (mouse mammary fat-pad clearing and cell transplantation) analysis to assess stem cell activity and gene function. Learning Outcomes : The participants will learn about the complete workflow for mammary gland studies and gain an understanding about possibilities and limitations of working with mouse and human systems. Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Extracellular Vesicles: From Biology to Biomedical Applications is organized by European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and will be held during Apr 08 - 14, 2018 at EMBL Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The target audience for this medical event is PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers who are interested in learning how to work with extracellular vesicles and know more about their biomedical applications. Conference Description : A rapidly increasing number of researchers aim to purify and identify extracellular vesicles and many methodologies to isolate and analyse these vesicles are available and have been implemented. This course will cover the basics, possibilities and limitations of different purification and characterization techniques and will address strategies to understand their role in biomedical applications. Course Objectives are : • Extracellular vesicles (continuous and discontinuous density gradient ultracentrifugation, ultrafiltration techniques, bead-capture and precipitation techniques) • Extracellular vesicles characterisation (Immunoblot and electron microscopy, fluorescent labeling, quantitative and qualitative analysis by flow cytometry, structural and mechanical characterisation by atomic force microscopy, nanoparticle tracking analysis) • Extracellular vesicles composition (lipidomics, proteomics, transcriptomics) • Extracellular vesicles and function (molecular players for extracellular vesicle biogenesis, extracellular vesicle targeting to cells, extracellular vesicles as diagnostics and/or therapeutics in pathophysiology) Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

European Respiratory Society (ERS) Interstitial lung diseases is organized by European Respiratory Society (ERS) and will be held during Apr 18 - 20, 2018 at University Hospital Heidelberg Thorax Clinic Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. The target audience for this medical event is Clinicians, Pulmonologists in training, Radiologists specialized in thoracic imaging, Pathologists specialized in thoracic pathology. Course Description: This course provides an overview of the field of Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs). Participants will learn which diagnostic procedures should be applied based on given clinical circumstances, and what difficulties can arise in ILD diagnosis. Special emphasis will be given to HRCT courses, as these typically guide the diagnosis of many ILDs; this will be accompanied by sessions on ILD-pathology. Therapy remains a challenging aspect of treating many ILDs, so this course will provide participants with insight into the pros and cons of specific ILD treatments. Interdisciplinary ILD board discussions will be held between specialists and course participants, and course attendees will have the opportunity to bring their own challenging cases and discuss them with leading experts. Further, there will be a dedicated discussion session on the impact of comorbidities on the clinical course of ILD treatment. Topics: • Overview of different ILDs • Diagnostic procedures in ILDs, including modern bronchoscopic techniques, HR-CT, pathology, pulmonary function testing • Current, novel and future therapies • Basic research in ILDs and its implications • Significant comorbidities in ILDs Conference Objectives are : • Be able to diagnose ILDs correctly and be aware of the advantages and limitations of the different approaches • Be familiar with the current standards and challenges of ILD treatment and promising new targets Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
