OVERVIEW

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound: The Basics with Interventional Cadaver Lab is organized by Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute (GCUS) Inc. and will be held from Jan 25 - 27, 2027 at Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute, St. petersburg, Florida, United States of America.

Description:
The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound: The Basics with Interventional Cadaver Lab Training Course delivers a comprehensive foundation in diagnostic and interventional MSK ultrasound. This hands-on CME course is ideal for physicians, sonographers, PAs, and NPs seeking to develop core musculoskeletal ultrasound skills with an emphasis on ultrasound-guided injections and aspirations.

Course highlights include:

  • Expert-led lectures covering musculoskeletal anatomy, pathology, and interventional techniques
  • Live scanning demonstrations of all major upper and lower extremity joints
  • Extensive hands-on scanning with a 3:1 participant-to-faculty ratio using standardized patient models and inanimate phantoms
  • 4-hour cadaver lab using un-embalmed human cadaver specimens for real-world interventional practice

Participants will build essential competencies in ultrasound probe handling, anatomy recognition, pathology identification, and safe, effective needle-guidance techniques. The use of human cadaveric specimens enhances realism and prepares attendees to confidently apply their skills in clinical settings.

Upgrade to the most comprehensive MSK ultrasound experience by combining this course with the Regenerative Medicine & Advanced Techniques MSK Ultrasound Course. The advanced course expands your skill set to include:

  • Ultrasound evaluation of the spine, peripheral nerves, and chronic tendinopathies
  • Interventional procedures such as ultrasound-guided tenotomy, hydrodissection, and peripheral nerve injections
  • Regenerative medicine techniques including prolotherapy, PRP (platelet-rich plasma), BMAC (bone marrow aspirate concentrate), and lipoaspirate applications
  • An additional cadaver lab dedicated to practicing advanced interventional and regenerative procedures

Topics:

  • Shoulder Anatomy & Scanning Techniques with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Shoulder Pathology
  • Elbow Anatomy & Scan Techniques with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Elbow Pathology
  • Ultrasound Guided Injection Techniques
  • Wrist & Hand Anatomy, Scan Techniques with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Wrist and Hand Pathology
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of the Ankle & Foot with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Ankle/Foot Pathology
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of the Hip with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Hip Pathology
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of the Knee with Live Scanning Demonstration
  • Ultrasound Evaluation of Knee Pathology
  • Use of Ultrasound in Rheumatology Applications
  • Hands-On Scanning Standardized Patient Models: All Joints Covered
  • Interventional Cadaver Lab

Objectives:

  • Increase the participant's knowledge to better perform and/or interpret MSK ultrasound examinations.
  • List the indications, benefits, and limitations of MSK ultrasound for sports medicine injuries, physical medicine & rehabilitation, and rheumatology applications.
  • Demonstrate proper transducer manipulation and system optimization to produce diagnostic images.
  • Demonstrate scanning protocols for performing shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, knee, ankle/foot, & hip ultrasound examinations.
  • Identify normal anatomy during musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
  • Identify the sonographic appearance of commonly seen pathology of the shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist/hand, ankle, and foot, & hip.
  • Demonstrate the use of MSK sonography for diagnosis and ultrasound-guided interventions and describe "in-plane" and "out of plane" injections/aspiration techniques using inanimate phantoms.
  • Identify the sonographic anatomy during the performance of ultrasound guided MSK injections on cadaver models.
  • Increase confidence to incorporate protocols, techniques and interpretation criteria to improve diagnostic/treatment accuracy.
