OVERVIEW

2nd Redox Biology in Health & Disease Conference is organized by Fusion Conferences Ltd and will be held from May 25 - 28, 2027 at Melia Durres Albania, Tirane, Albania.

Description:
Oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions are responsible for the transfer of electrons among molecules and underpin the evolution of multicellular life. However, uncontrolled oxidative stress and excessive accumulation of molecules like reactive oxygen species (ROS) can damage cells and tissues by oxidizing lipids, proteins, and DNA. This conference will explore how control of the multiple functions of redox biology contribute to the maintenance of cellular health and disease pathogenesis. The numerous antioxidant mechanisms that counterbalance the detrimental effects of ROS, and how they are deregulated will be discussed, with a focus on various oxidative-stress associated conditions such as neurodegenerative disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and the general process of aging.

Sessions will highlight advances in our understanding of the intricate roles and interactions of ROS and antioxidant defences within the framework of redox biology, including the expanding consideration of inter-organ communication and systemic impacts of oxidative stress.

Their importance in normal and disease physiology will be highlighted, including the potential of therapeutic interventions that aim to balance these crucial molecules. Such strategies hold the promise of preventing and treating a diverse array of diseases.

Key Sessions:

  • Define the generation, biological roles and dual nature of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cellular signalling, gene expression and cell death
  • Consider the crosstalk between cancer metabolism and the tumour microenvironment
  • Explore the systemic impact of redox control in health and disease
  • Examine the protective mechanisms of antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH) in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis and preventing oxidative damage
  • Determine the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in perturbing redox balance
  • Explore the contribution and therapeutic potential of oxidative stress to diseases like cancer and neurodegenerative disorders
