Trauma Surgery and Fracture Treatment 2026 is organized by Dutch Institute of Allied Health Care / Nederlands Paramedisch instituut (NPi) and will be held from Apr 07 - 20, 2026 at Van der Valk Hotel Almere, Almere, Flevoland, Netherlands.
Description:
As a physiotherapist (or exercise therapist) working in a hospital, rehabilitation center, or nursing home, you regularly treat patients with fractures. As a physiotherapist in primary care, you also regularly see patients with fractures. Normally, an invoice heals within 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the chosen treatment. The trauma surgeon or trauma orthopedist will determine, based on various parameters, whether the fracture can be weight-bearing, not weight-bearing, or partially weight-bearing. After completing this course, you, as a therapist, will be able to translate this strategy into functional exercises and adequately inform the patient about the expected course of action. During the healing phase, it is important to understand how to increase the load, what the signs of overuse are, and how to tailor the therapy accordingly. Furthermore, as a therapist, you must be able to identify any abnormalities in the fracture's course of action and communicate your findings effectively to the trauma surgeon or trauma orthopedist.
This three-day course, designed in collaboration with trauma surgeons and physiotherapists from various (academic) hospitals, provides a clear overview of the current state of the art in trauma surgery, fracture treatment, and trauma rehabilitation. Information is provided on normal fracture healing, medical and paramedical procedures for various types of fractures, and how to recognize abnormal progression. In addition, ample time is devoted to case studies. The course offers ample opportunity to exchange ideas with instructors, primarily trauma surgeons and physiotherapists from (academic) hospitals. The following topics are covered:
Goal:
After the course, you'll be able to use your knowledge of normal fracture treatment and healing to formulate clear therapeutic goals and accurately assess the stress on the fracture during treatment. You'll also be able to recognize abnormal progression and take appropriate measures (contact a specialist/adjust therapy).
Accreditation:
This training is accredited for: Basic Register General Physiotherapist (KNGF and Quality Mark) / Exercise Therapist (leniency scheme) with 18 points.
