Restorative Management Strategies for the Geriatric Patient is organized by Australian Dental Association Queensland Branch (ADAQ) and will be held on Aug 14, 2026 at ADAQ CPD and Training Centre, Bowen Hills, Queensland, Australia.

Description:
This workshop will include lectures and case presentations demonstrating the assessment and management of the ageing dentition.

A number of technique exercises will undertaken to demonstrate options for management of ageing patients who present with a range of challenging clinical concerns.

Topics to be covered will include;

• Assessing the ageing patient and the ageing mouth
• Protecting exposed root surfaces – Reducing sensitivity and improving aesthetics and the appropriate use of the appropriate fluoride regime
• Root surface caries – Is it manageable?
• Techniques for the deep interproximal posterior restoration
• Fibre reinforced restorations - for compromised and missing teeth
• Patient friendly procedures – Managing the frail and feeble patient
• The hopeless tooth – To restore or extract?

Learning objectives:

• Understand the importance of patient assessment and what matter most to the ageing patient
• Appreciate the need for conservative management of the ageing, worn and broken down dentition
• Understand the advantages and limitations of various direct and indirect restorative procedures and meeting patient expectations
• Develop ongoing care and maintenance regimes to achieve optimised outcomes and enhanced long term success.
