OVERVIEW

POCUS Fundamentals & Echo-Guided Life Support (EGLS) Course Combo is organized by Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Groups (EMUGs) and will be held from Oct 30 - 31, 2026 at InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach by IHG, Coogee, New South Wales, Australia.

Description:
POCUS Fundamentals + EGLS

2 Days of Comprehensive POCUS education for Acute Care Clinicians

Take part in a flexible learning experience designed for real-world acute care:

Day 1: POCUS Fundamentals
Master the essentials – focus on AAA & eFAST.

Day 2: EGLS (Echo Guided Life Support)
Confidently assess and manage the shocked patient using focused cardiac and lung ultrasound.

Day 1 – POCUS Fundamentals
Focus on essential diagnostic ultrasound skills with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) & eFAST (extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma) modules. This is ideal for clinicians seeking to build confidence and competence in core applications that can be immediately applied in clinical practice.

Day 2 – EGLS (Echo-Guided Life Support)
Take your resuscitation skills to the next level with EGLS. Learn a structured, protocolised approach to using cardiac and lung ultrasound in the assessment and management of shock and respiratory failure. This course is designed to empower acute care clinicians with the practical skills to make rapid, life-saving decisions.

Combo of Fundamentals + EGLS - Whether you're new to ultrasound or looking to enhance your skills, this comprehensive two-day course  is ideal for acute care clinicians aiming to integrate POCUS into daily practice.

You'll cover the core emergency medicine ultrasound modules: FELS, eFAST, AAA, and lung. The course aligns with ACEM and ASUM credentialing requirements for core ultrasound modalities.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of training, participants will be better able to:

  • Categorise undifferentiated shock via an algorithmic approach;
  • Identify pneumothorax and interstitial syndrome with lung ultrasound;
  • Identify the signs of obstructive shock (tamponade, pulmonary embolism);
  • Qualitatively assess left ventricular function;
  • Assess the inferior vena cava;
  • Assess volemia and fluid responsiveness potential.

Highlights:

  • A full day of echo and lung ultrasound
  • Integrated approach to the undifferentiated shocked patient
  • Emergency clinician instructors
  • Scanning time prioritised
  • High instructor to participant ratio (4:1)
  • 2 participants per scanning station
  • Extensive pre course online learning modules
  • Exceptional feedback from previous New Zealand EGLS courses
