Upon successful completion of course, earn 8 CE for oral sedation recertification. This course requires an active state permit to provide sedation or previous attendance at the DOCS Education courses for Adult Oral Sedation Dentistry, Light Sedation: N2O and Oral Sedatives, or IV Sedation Certification.

Sedation dentistry is a constantly evolving field — taken every two years, this course completely updates and refreshes attendees on the pharmacology, best practices, and proven sedation protocols required for recertification and to maintain your patients' safety.

Course Objectives:

  • Discuss recent advances in oral conscious sedation techniques and industry standards.
  • Update your pre-sedation medical evaluation protocols based on the latest criteria.
  • Learn the signs of the uncontrolled medical condition.
  • Learn to manage and prevent potential sedation misadventures, including abnormal patient response, post-operative complications, and more.
  • Understand the physiologic principles impacting sedation safety, including respiratory function, diabetes, cardiovascular concerns, and pediatrics.?
  • Review potential contraindications to sedation, including ASA status, pregnancy, uncontrolled medical conditions, and psychiatric considerations.
  • Prevent sedation management nightmares, such as behavioral issues and non-compliance.
  • Develop strategies for communicating realistic sedation expectations with patients and recognizing when a patient may not be a good candidate.
