Patients with acute heart disease constitute a large and important patient group among those who seek treatment at our emergency departments. The conditions are often life-threatening.
Taking an adequate history and a well-directed status in a short time is absolutely crucial for the continued treatment. Choosing the right diagnostic methods and therapy is of great importance for the outcome. The overall goal of the course in acute cardiology is to clarify how to correctly treat patients who seek treatment with symptoms that may be caused by an acute heart disease. We highlight which diagnostic methods to choose from, as well as which therapy is indicated pre-hospital, at the emergency department and during the stay in hospital. Finally, we review what should be included in the continued treatment and planning when the patient is discharged after the acute care episode. We base our work on authentic cases.
