OVERVIEW

ECG Interpretation, Including Arrhythmia Diagnostics VT26 is organized by Uppsala University and will be held from Apr 13 - 16, 2026 in Uppsala, Uppland, Sweden.

Description:
Good knowledge of ECG interpretation is essential when managing patients with cardiac symptoms. The ability to correctly interpret ECGs is therefore required by most physicians, both in acute and more elective patient care.

The course begins with a review of the structure of the ECG and then goes through the most important diagnostic criteria for, among other things, ischemic heart disease, left ventricular hypertrophy and the most common arrhythmias. On day two, we delve further into arrhythmia diagnostics, primarily with regard to narrow and wide QRS tachycardias. The last days of the course are largely devoted to discussing long-term ECG recording.

The course also provides an overview of exercise ECG and ergospirometry as well as nuclear medicine functional examinations of the heart such as myocardial scintigraphy and PET. The course highlights which questions can be answered with each method and goes through how the examinations are performed.

Overall goals:
Provide general knowledge of the examination methods in clinical physiology that are available with regard to cardiovascular diagnostics. In addition, more in-depth knowledge of ECG interpretation in the case of arrhythmias and long-term ECG.

Results for the participant:
After completing the course, the participant is expected to be able to:

  • Interpret ECG using standard criteria for, among other things, ischemic heart disease, left ventricular hypertrophy, the most common arrhythmias, non-specific ECG changes.
  • Distinguish between different atrial-triggered and ventricular-triggered tachyarrhythmias and suggest adequate treatment.
  • Determine when, and in what form, long-term ECG recording is needed and be able to adequately assess the results of this.
  • Describe how the examinations are performed, and what questions can be answered with exercise ECG, ergospirometry and myocardial scintigraphy.
