This course delves beyond the established fact that early orthodontic intervention works, focusing instead on the crucial questions of efficiency and justification.

Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) confirm the effectiveness of early treatment for malocclusions. However, the modern practitioner must answer two pivotal, practice-shaping questions:

  • Is Early Treatment Efficient? Does initiating treatment in the early mixed dentition (Phase I) save enough chair time, money, and overall treatment length to justify the intervention, compared to waiting until the early permanent dentition (comprehensive treatment)?
  • Do the Benefits Justify the Intervention? When does the functional, psychological, and skeletal benefit of correcting a problem early outweigh the burden of intervention for both the patient and the parents?

This course will provide the evidence-based data and clinical guidance necessary to confidently answer these questions.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped to make clinically sound and economically efficient decisions regarding the timing of orthodontic treatment, ensuring optimal outcomes for your patients and clear communication with their families.
