OVERVIEW

Dermoscopy for Intermediates is organized by Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS) and will be held on Nov 26, 2026 at Cavendish Venues - 22 Duchess Mews, W1, London, England, United Kingdom.

Description:
The Intermediate dermoscopy course is ideal for people who have been doing dermoscopy for a while, and know the basics (or have been to one of our "dermoscopy for absolute beginners" courses).

There will cover the common lesions in more detail, and present a useful algorithm for analysing lesions. We extend some topics, such as dermoscopy of SCC, difficult seborrhoeic keratoses, pigmented lesions on the palms and soles, and superficial BCC, and introduce some new ones including spitz naevi, structureless lesions, and pigmented lesions on the face.

They have an interactive quiz at the end to consolidate the teaching, and give plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

GPs use stetho-, auro- and ophthalmoscopes because they help in establishing health or disease. Dermoscopy is another aid to diagnosis which we feel that at least one member of every practice should be competent to use.

For some years now, the PCDS has been a leading proponent of dermoscopy in the UK, and the NICE guidelines now recommend dermoscopy for assessment of skin lesions. We are aware of the need for training at all levels of competence, and have updated our courses to reflect this.

Dermoscopy for absolute beginners includes practical advice on how to use a scope, as well as the basic differentiation of obvious benign lesions from worrying ones. This should help reduce the number of benign lesions referred unnecessarily to secondary care under the 2 week rule.
