This comprehensive continuous hands-on (pig jaws) course is specifically designed for restorative dentists to understand the frequent necessity of crown lengthening in the everyday restorative treatments of their patients and to provide this procedure yourselves for more successful and seamless restorative outcomes and patient care! It will cover the concepts, diagnosis, decision making, surgical and restorative concepts and techniques and instruments you need.

This course is for both dentists that have not performed crown lengthening procedures as well as for those dentists that do perform them but want to understand the many options and pearls that build their knowledge base, confidence and diversity of these valuable procedures.

Day 1:

Course Objectives:

To diagnose clinical restorative situations requiring crown lengthening
To understand what type of crown lengthening procedure is most appropriate for different clinical scenarios
To know how to integrate this procedure into overall planning, consulting, and timing of different restorative situations both functionally and esthetically
To understand the biological and physical principles of crown lengthening
To understand the surgical requirements of this periodontal procedure
To know how to perform full thickness mucoperiosteal flaps
To understand and perform osseous contouring

Performing osseous reduction, osteoplasty and contouring
Positioning flaps to prevent rebound
Suturing periodontal flaps
Placing periodontal dressing

Day 2:

Course Objectives:

Understand Patient concerns in the esthetic zone
Understanding physiology of anterior periodontal architecture, health and defects
Understanding the critical need of cosmetic assessment, consulting and treatment planning
Understanding the psychology of cosmetically motivated patients
Learning to “ Under promise and over deliver”
Understand how to prevent complications ahead of time and how to treat then postoperatively

You will learn:

General review of CL physiologically and technically.
Discussion of physiological causes of anterior gingival architectural issues.
Treating one or more teeth in the esthetic zone versus treating all the teeth in the anterior zone.
CL in the anterior esthetic zone without need to restore the anterior teeth.
CL in the anterior esthetic zone integrating it with restoring the teeth with direct or indirect restorations.
