OVERVIEW

Building Interventional Radiology Skills for Paediatrics is organized by The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and will be held on Nov 23, 2026 at The Royal College of Radiologists, London, England, United Kingdom.

Event Description:
This one?day, in?person RCR course is designed to equip adult interventional radiology (IR) consultants and paediatric diagnostic radiologists with the practical skills and knowledge base to make decisions on and perform a range of low complexity procedures in children. This course also aims to give delegates a grounding in paediatric physiology and confidence in communicating with families and consent. Delegates will have access to ongoing support from a network of paediatric interventional radiologists.

The course will bring together a range of expert perspectives in one setting. Drawing on the experience of both paediatric and adult interventional radiologists, the course will address key differences between adult and paediatric IR, narrowing the skill gap of delegates so that they have greater confidence and enthusiasm in delivering simple but key procedures, such as biopsy, drainages and basic angiography for trauma.

This course is being offered to address the unmet need for minimally invasive procedures for children and reduce inequalities in the availability of IR for children compared to adults.

The day will be led by a team of interventional radiologists with backgrounds in paediatric radiology and/or adult IR, convening a multidisciplinary faculty to share expertise.  The programme is highly interactive, with a pragmatic focus on what clinicians need to know, including consent and communication with children and families.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the procedural steps and equipment needed to perform low complexity procedures in children
  • Appreciate the differences between adult and child physiology and disease, and how to optimise the procedure room for the safe care of children
  • Gain confidence in communicating with children and parents, and an understanding of the legal framework around paediatric consent
  • Develop links with a network of paediatric interventional radiologists and be supported in developing local paediatric IR services
