AO Trauma Masters Course—Current Concepts—Lower Extremity I (Femur) (With Human Anatomical Specimens) is organized by AO Foundation and will be held from Dec 06 - 11, 2026 at Davos, Canton, Switzerland.

Goal
The goal of this course is to enhance knowledge and skills in managing difficult and complex cases. State-of-the-art techniques and approaches, best practices for treatment, and the management of complications will all be addressed at a high level.

Description
Current concepts courses and modules address the latest techniques and best practices in operative fracture management dealing with complex orthopedic trauma problems. The course includes several case presentations and open group discussions moderated by experts in the field. Best evidence is presented through summary lectures and practical exercises at the anatomical specimen laboratory.

Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Manage complex fractures of the proximal femur, femoral shaft and distal femur, based on patient age, fracture location, and fracture type 
  • Apply current evidence to the management of femoral fractures using the latest principles and techniques of reduction and internal fixation 
  • Perform surgical approaches for treatment of proximal femoral fractures and perform advanced approaches to the posterolateral, posteromedial, and medial distal femur 
  • Perform reduction and fixation techniques using implants for proximal and distal femur fractures in anatomical specimens 
  • Prevent, identify, and treat complications associated with femoral fractures
