OVERVIEW

AO Sports Advanced Course Knee - Injuries and Deformities is organized by AO North America (AO NA) and will be held from Nov 29 - Dec 02, 2026 at Davos, Graubunden, Switzerland.

Description:
This course reviews the core principles, demonstrates the latest techniques, and explores the best practices in the management of various knee disorders. The course includes case-based lectures, interactive sessions, and a hands-on experience with synthetic anatomical specimens. The sessions will be moderated by experts in the field presenting the best current evidence related to each topic of the course.

This course is 2.5 days and covers current topics in sports medicine, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstructions, posterolateral corner (PLC) and posteromedial corner (PMC) reconstructions, meniscal repair, as well as the core principles on knee deformity corrections.

Objectives:
Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the surgical anatomy of the ligaments of the knee and its implication in the reconstructive procedures of those structures.
  • Describe the rationale applied to the management of soft tissues injuries (menisci, ligaments, and cartilage).
  • Explain the importance of lower extremity alignment while managing knee disorders based on comprehensive clinical and radiological assessment.
  • Apply the principles of deformity correction to make a preoperative plan for osteotomies around the knee. Apply concepts of ligament reconstruction and deformity correction in the setting of a skills lab.

Goal
This course aims to present a broad perspective about the knee joint, emphasizing the concept of “the knee as an organ,” where the synergistic interaction between soft tissues (ligaments, menisci, and cartilage) and bone is critical to promote optimal function. The focus is to provide a set of principles that should guide surgeons through the process of decision making while dealing with knee injuries and deformities. The state of the art in diagnosis, planning, and management of knee disorders will be addressed by expert faculty.
