AO CMF Masters Course - Contemporary Management of Facial Trauma is organized by AO Foundation and will be held from Nov 29 - Dec 02, 2026 in Davos, Graubunden, Switzerland.

Description:
Participants will be engaged in an intensive learning activity on the most up-to-date treatment concepts and technological advances in the management of facial deformities. The course comprises modular sessions, case discussions, and panel debates on various topics related to orthognathic surgery at an expert level. The high faculty-to-participant ratio facilitates in-depth discussions and interactions with renowned faculty members.

Goal:
This 2.5-day master's level course provides a comprehensive overview of concepts in orthognathic surgery for dental and skeletal deformity that can be applied in the local healthcare system based on patient needs and expectations and on a multidisciplinary approach. A particular focus is placed on the challenge of treating obstructive sleep apnea and on the surgery-first approach. The course covers the use of the emerging technology for planning and treatment processes as well as complication avoidance.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Assess, diagnose, and analyze outcomes in functional problems before and after orthodontic or surgical treatment 
  • Implement virtual surgical planning in the workflow 
  • Measure the value of patient specific implants, mixed and augmented reality 
  • Understand the sequence and perform 3D virtual surgical planning 
  • Integrate the concepts of minimally invasive orthognathic surgery 
  • Apply surgical skills needed to perform a range of procedures respecting hard and soft tissues (functional and esthetic outcome) 
  • State the advantages and disadvantages of no surgery-first approach (SFA) 
  • Prevent and manage complications that may appear, eg, in the treatment of sleep apnea 
  • Apply skills for interdisciplinary discussions 
  • Adhere to current approaches to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea
