Description:
This activity is designed to help clinicians learn how to manage individual patients undergoing complex surgery so they emerge faster, with less pain, nausea and vomiting, and cognitive decline; and hasten the return of functional status. The activity will also facilitate adoption of systems- based practice to improve population health in surgical patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide standardized perioperative care, with an emphasis on safe practice of regional anesthesia and appropriate use of perioperative opiates, for patients undergoing orthopedic and other peripheral surgery.
  • Manage patients at risk of major bleeding and those undergoing massive transfusion.
  • Work at an institutional level to develop, implement, and refine enhanced recovery programs after surgery.
