Description:
This 7-hour live, hands-on course is designed to provide the “how-to” of emergency care of the burn patient through the first 24-hour critical time period.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to provide the initial primary treatment to those who have sustained burn injuries and manage common complications that occur within the first 24 hours postburn. Specifically, participants will be able to demonstrate an ability to do the following:

• Evaluate a patient with a burn
• Define the extent and severity of the injury
• Manage the airway and support ventilation
• Initiate, monitor, and adjust fluid resuscitation
• Determine which patients should be transferred to a burn center
