OVERVIEW

Acute poisonings VT26 is organized by Uppsala University and will be held from Mar 16 - 18, 2026 in Uppsala, Uppsala Lan, Sweden.

Description:
Patients with various poisoning conditions are common in emergency care. Poisoning incidents include, for example, self-harm/suicide attempts with medication and overdoses of illegal drugs, but also accidents – snakebites, confusion between poisonous and edible mushrooms and plants, and occupational chemical exposures. Correct diagnosis and treatment can be life-changing. It is often unclear exactly what and how much the patient has been exposed to.

The course will cover different types of poisonings. We will focus on diagnostics, monitoring needs and treatment so that the course participant gains a systematic approach to handling poisonings. Parts of the course will be conducted interactively using the mentometer method and based on authentic cases.

Course Objectives:
The goal of the course is for the participant to be able to initially manage acutely poisoned patients, to be able to treat the most common poisonings and to know more unusual conditions.
