OVERVIEW

Acute neurological symptoms and diseases VT26 is organized by Uppsala University and will be held from Apr 07 - 10, 2026 in Uppsala, Uppsala Lan, Sweden.

Description:
Many acute neurological diseases risk leading to permanent disability with impairment of cognitive functions, vision and mobility. Being able to interpret neurological symptom pictures, conduct an adequate investigation and initiate treatment promptly is therefore important. Neurology is considered a difficult subject, especially the diagnostic thinking.

In the course we discuss which treatment is effective for patients with common symptoms such as headache, dizziness and impaired consciousness. We place great importance on distinguishing those patients who have a serious illness from those with difficult but harmless medical conditions. A whole day is devoted to stroke including thrombolysis. We leave neurological intricacies aside while the connection to scientific findings is given an important place.

Course Objectives:
After completing the course, the participant is expected to have knowledge of and be able to report on:

  • How to interpret and effectively use clinical neurological examination to locate damage to the nervous system
  • Signs of serious causes of headaches and dizziness, as well as treatment of less serious forms of these conditions
  • Management of sudden transient impairment of consciousness, especially epilepsy, and status epilepticus
  • Strategies for identifying causes of coma
  • Principles for initial management and transport of acutely ill neurosurgical patients
  • Investigation and treatment of acute ischemic stroke
  • Investigation and initiation of secondary prevention
  • Investigation and treatment of CNS infections
