21st Immunology of Diabetes Society (IDS) Congress & the Australian Islet Study Group Meeting is organized by ASN Events and will be held from Apr 20 - 24, 2026 at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), South brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Addressing complex diseases requires international collaboration and strong scientific networks to advance research and knowledge. nPOD’s mission is to provide tissues from human organ donors with or at risk for T1D to better understand the pathogenesis of the human disease – closely aligns with the goals of the IDS.

Rather than hosting a separate meeting this year, nPOD is honored to collaborate with IDS to bring together the broader type 1 diabetes community at this exciting and dynamic international congress. nPOD will sponsor a scientific session at this year’s IDS meeting, and we encourage all nPOD and IDS members to participate in this global event that unites researchers and healthcare professionals in a collaborative and open environment.

Objectives:
Advance the Understanding of Immunology of Type 1 Diabetes
To present and disseminate cutting-edge research on type 1 diabetes, including the interplay between the immune system and metabolic pathways, the role of autoimmunity, and strategies for delay and prevention of diabetes. To encourage submissions of new research findings and methodologies.

Foster Multidisciplinary Collaborations
Promote collaborations across diverse fields such as immunology, islet biology, clinical research, ‘omics and bioinformatics to foster a multidisciplinary approach to type 1 diabetes research. Create networking events, collaborative workshops, and joint sessions with researchers from various disciplines.

Encourage the Development and Clinical Translation of Therapies
Focus on bridging the gap between research and clinical practice. Showcase emerging therapeutic technologies and immunotherapies that target the immune system to prevent or treat diabetes, including antigen-specific therapies, immune modulation, mechanisms of natural protection, and regenerative medicine focusing on the islet.

Promote Young Investigators and Diversity in Research
Support and showcase the work of young investigators and underrepresented groups in type 1 diabetes research. Include dedicated sessions for new researchers, awards for outstanding contributions, and scholarships for attendance and presentation at the Congress.

Globalise the Impact of Type 1 Diabetes Research
Extend the reach of type 1 diabetes research by integrating perspectives from researchers in low- and middle-income countries, regions with increasing type 1 diabetes burdens, and the Asia-Pacific region. Promote global thinking around type 1 diabetes with presentations focused on the global epidemiology of diabetes and the impact of diabetes among First Nations people.
