Description:
The 2026 Arkansas Pain Management Symposium is designed to provide high quality continuing education to an interprofessional audience in order to improve chronic pain treatment in the state of Arkansas.

Objectives:

  1. Identify appropriate initial assessment and management strategies for patients presenting with acute and chronic pain in primary and specialty care settings.
  2. Evaluate evidence-based rehabilitation interventions for common geriatric pain conditions using case-based examples.
  3. Apply current best practices for managing pain in older adults, including screening for substance use disorders (SUD) and identifying cannabis use disorder in the geriatric population.
  4. Discuss safe and effective pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic alternatives for pain control in elderly patients.
  5. Interpret updated CDC guidelines to determine when opioid prescribing is appropriate and how to minimize risk.
  6. Analyze barriers to care faced by older adults and propose strategies to improve access.
  7. Implement evidence-based fall prevention interventions tailored to geriatric patients.
  8. Recognize the impact of diversity, culture, and social determinants of health on pain management and care delivery in older adults.
