Description:
Starting in 2024, the NPi will offer the full "Process-Based Breathing and Relaxation Therapy" training program. The NPi offers this three-part (year) program in collaboration with the Van Dixhoorn Center for Breathing and Relaxation Therapy.
In this program, you will learn to provide breathing and relaxation instruction from a process-based approach, apply various manual techniques to promote the relaxation response, and influence breathing patterns. You will also learn to guide patients' practice experiences. This will enable you to investigate the extent to which excessive tension is present and manageable, or whether circumstances are dominant and keep tension high. If excessive tension resolves, you will be able to assess the extent to which potential tension complaints are related to dysfunctional tension and to what extent limiting conditions continue to play a role.
Part 3 of the program:
Part 3 of the "Process-Based Breathing and Relaxation Therapy" program consists of three three-day blocks with ample time between them.
Part 3 further explores the theory and practice of breathing and relaxation therapy according to the Van Dixhoorn method. This is the year when things really start to click.
Each class day begins with questions and input from personal experiences.
Part 3 examines in more detail the steps in the various breathing and relaxation instructions and how to adapt them to the patient's response. You will give the instructions yourself and receive feedback on how to deliver them and how to guide the practice experiences. For the first two blocks, you can still use the textbook. In the final block, you will give the instructions from memory. Peer supervision is recommended to further enhance your understanding of the instructions. Part 3 also includes several assignments on theoretical topics.
As in Part 2, in Part 3 you will complete two supervised trial sessions. You will be guided in learning to use a process-oriented approach to help reduce dysfunctional tension, assess the level of tension, determine the extent to which your internal self-regulation of tension has improved, and assess the nature of any potential tension-related complaints.
If the trial sessions are deemed satisfactory, you can use one of the two as the basis for your final case study. You will write the final case study yourself, without supervision. The program concludes with the final case study and a written final report on your own experiences throughout the program and your experiences with clients in practice.
In the final block, you will give a presentation to the entire group, explaining the concepts of the Van Dixhoorn method based on your own learning process. You will explain, in your own words, briefly and concisely, what process-based tension regulation entails and its added value, for example, within your own work setting.
The tenth day marks the completion of the three-year program, including a celebratory presentation of the certificates. You will receive the certificate once you have met the training requirements and your reports have been approved.
