Endocrinologists need an update in current surgical weight loss procedures endorsed by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. They also need to be knowledgeable about the pros and cons of various procedures performed today in the US for metabolic improvement as well as problems encountered with procedures of historic interest in the US used for weight loss.

Bariatric surgery has been reported to help achieve more significant and sustained weight loss than non-surgical management in patients with severe obesity. Post-bariatric surgery hypoglycemia is an increasingly recognized complication. It can have significant effects on the quality of life of an individual. Endocrinologists need a review of the various patterns of post-bariatric surgery hypoglycemia, pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment for patients with this condition.

Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of the TXEA 2025 Annual Meeting, attendees will be able to:

1. Discuss current surgical weight loss procedures endorsed by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
2. Describe pros and cons of various procedures performed today in the US for metabolic improvement.
3. List problems encountered with procedures of historic interest in the US used for weight loss.
4. Discuss the prevalence and impact of hypoglycemia following weight loss surgery and how to detect it.
5. Review treatment options available for post-bariatric hypoglycemia and what is on the horizon for development.
6. Review the use of incretin therapies for the treatment of obesity.
7. Discuss the outcomes of incretin therapy discontinuation.
8. Identify strategies to reduce incretin therapy discontinuation by understanding its underlying causes.
9. Review current technologies for the management of Type 1 and Type 2 DM including continuous glucose monitoring systems and automated insulin delivery systems for adults.
10. Assess current literature on efficacy and limitations of continuous glucose monitoring systems in outpatient and inpatient settings.
