OVERVIEW

Systematic Evaluation and Treatment of the Wrist I is organized by International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine - US (IAOM) and will be held from Sep 20 - 21, 2025 at IBJI Doctors’ Office - Morton Grove, Morton Grove, Illinois, United States of America.

Instruction Hours:
September 20, 2025 - 8:00 am – 6:30 pm
September 21, 2025 - 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Course Description:
This course introduces therapists to a systematic approach to evaluating and treating joint and soft tissue disorders of the wrist and forearm. This course will help you develop a solid understanding of joint arthrokinematics and joint-specific techniques to maximize motion at the wrist and determine how to address limitations with forearm rotation. In addition, this course covers treatment techniques to address soft tissue disorders of the radial, central, and ulnar side of the wrist. These common orthopedic conditions will be assessed and treated based on the biomechanics and pathoanatomy principles determined by  the basic clinical examination and offer management suggestions for soft tissue and joint specific dysfunctions and related disorders.

Objectives and Goals:
Through a combination of lecture and lab, participants will:

  • Explain the anatomy and kinesiology of the wrist and forearm as it relates to joint mobilization.
  • Through the use of surface anatomy, identify key bony and soft tissue structures at the wrist needed for testing and treatment.
  • Describe the clinical presentation and implications of wrist instability in clients post trauma.
  • Perform specific manual therapy testing techniques to identify and treat limitations at the radiocarpal and midcarpal joints.
  • Verbalize the indications and contraindications for mobilization/static-progressive splinting to address forearm limitations following a wrist trauma.
  • Perform specific manual therapy techniques to address radial, central, and ulnar wrist pain through use of transverse friction massage, neural flossing, and/or joint specific techniques.
  • Classify joint mobilizations as a preparatory activity and discuss the value of occupation participation early in recovery from wrist conditions.
