OVERVIEW

Symposium 241: Mucosal Immunology Days is organized by Falk Foundation e. V. and will be held from Jul 10 - 12, 2025 at Examination Schools, University of Oxford, Oxford, England, United Kingdom.

Description:
We are pleased to welcome you to this unique symposium, where we bring together scientists and clinician scientist to collaboratively explore the mucosal immunology of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) through the structured framework of the Montreal Classification. This classification, based on age at diagnosis, disease location, and disease behaviour (inflammatory, stricturing, or fistulating), has long served as the foundational system for characterizing IBD in both research and clinical practice.

Throughout this meeting, we aim to delve deeply into the biological and clinical relevance of each component of the Montreal Classification. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the immunological underpinnings that give rise to the different phenotypes of IBD seen in patients. By integrating perspectives from basic and translational science as well as clinical medicine, we hope to advance our collective understanding of IBD heterogeneity.

The symposium will culminate in a forward-looking discussion on the future of IBD classification. With emerging insights in mucosal immunology, large data sets, and disease courses, we will consider how the next iteration of disease classification might evolve to better reflect underlying disease biology and improve patient care.

We thank all participants for contributing to this important dialogue and look forward to a productive and inspiring meeting.
