Annual lecture aiming to provide all physicians with a basic understanding of what an LVAD is, how it is used and works, its components, differences in patient management, pathways for adverse events, appropriate emergency care, and how to contact the VAD Team.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
- Understand candidacy for a left ventricular assist device (LVAD)
- Identify potential adverse events relative to the LVAD
- Understand the policies and pathways that exist for adverse events and how to respond to LVAD emergency scenarios
