Description:
This intensive two-day course is designed for general dental practitioners who wish to advance their surgical skills and increase their clinical confidence, empowering them to manage cases that might otherwise be referred to specialists. The program emphasizes practical, hands-on experience, utilizing custom-made models in a state-of-the-art facility equipped with phantom heads that closely simulate real patient scenarios. Participants will work with surgical instruments and handpieces identical to those used in clinical settings. 

Aims & Objectives: 

• Deepen understanding of fundamental oral surgery skills, common complications, and effective management strategies 
• Review the anatomy and morphology of teeth and adjacent structures, with a focus on tailored extraction approaches 
• Examine informed consent protocols in oral surgery, including practical examples of pre-operative consent forms 
• Explore the principles and designs of various surgical flaps and their indications 
• Learn and apply a range of suturing techniques, understanding their appropriate use 
• Review and compare local anesthetic techniques 
• Evaluate available radiographic modalities and their interpretation for surgical planning.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 

• Assess case complexity and determine appropriate management strategies 
• Perform both surgical and non-surgical extractions on models, including impacted third molars 
• Recognize and manage common complications in routine oral surgery and identify situations that require referral 
• Evaluate complex medical histories and adapt treatment plans accordingly 
• Identify patients at risk for MRONJ (Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw) and outline suitable treatment options 
• Select and calculate the appropriate local anesthetic technique and maximum dosage 
• Design and raise various surgical flaps on models within phantom heads to replicate real-life scenarios 
• Choose and practice appropriate suturing techniques on models 
• Interpret different radiographic images and integrate findings into treatment planning. 

This course offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring participants leave with enhanced competence and confidence in oral surgery procedures.
