Description:
This program has been designed to impart the understanding of diagnostic and treatment modalities necessary to properly treat patients who are candidates for dental implant therapy. The interdisciplinary approach utilizes case-based learning methodology that will include lectures, hands-on simulation sessions with laboratory models, fresh frozen cadaver surgery and Live implant placement surgery. The cadaver surgical Module will include dental extractions with implant placement, soft and hard tissue grafting, bone augmentation, and sinus lift procedures. All relevant anatomical structures will be reviewed through dissection and demonstration. Throughout Maxicourse, there will be literature review of pertinent articles emphasizing evidence-based clinical practice, relevant research, and scientific review of techniques.

Objectives:

  • Provide an intensive overview of implant dentistry appropriate for all skill levels
  • Examine the medical assessment of the dental implant patient, including systemic considerations, existing medication use, and potential contraindications to implant treatment
  • Understand the prosthodontic considerations for dental implant reconstruction
  • Build confidence in dental implant treatment planning
  • understand the foundation needed for implant site development following dental extractions
  • A comprehensive review of implant restoration including prosthodontic rehabilitation
  • Examine implant complications and steps to take for their prevention
  • Preparation for the AAID Fellow/Fellow membership examinations
