OVERVIEW

European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) Cancer Neuroscience is organized by European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and will be held from Oct 14 - 16, 2025 at Euskalduna Palace, Bilbao, Biscay, Spain.

Description:
The nervous system influences cancer in many ways, and vice versa. This bidirectional crosstalk between both the central and peripheral nervous system and cancer has changed our understanding of malignant diseases throughout the body. Recent seminal discoveries in the emerging field of cancer neuroscience have already led to new therapeutic concepts that target harmful neuro-cancer interactions.

The first EACR conference on this exciting and rapidly evolving topic brings together international leaders of the field: to identify the most relevant current insights, and to develop a roadmap for future preclinical, translational and clinical research.

Topics to be Covered:

  • Neural influences on cancer cells
  • Neural influences on the tumor environment
  • Influences of cancer (therapies) on the nervous system
  • Cancer-intrinsic neural mechanisms

Lay summary of the Conference Topic:
Tumours are not only a bunch of cells gone wild, but critically depend on supportive cells from the normal body. Fascinating discoveries in recent years have demonstrated that neurons and other components of our nervous system govern all kind of cancers, in the brain but also throughout the body. Our brain is linked via the central and peripheral nervous system to all parts of our body, and this cross-talk frequently results in tumour-promoting (rarely tumour-inhibiting) effects. This affects initiation, growth, spread and therapy resistance, for cancers of the brain but also the lung, breast, prostate, GI system, among others. Reversely, cancer can reprogramme our nervous system, leading to morbidity of patients and at the same time helping cancer to further progress. This first EACR conference on the emerging field of Cancer Neuroscience will highlight this crucial neuro-cancer crosstalk, with a strong emphasis on new ideas on how to use these insights for the development of new anticancer and quality of life-improving therapies for cancer patients.
