Emergency Preparedness and Airway Management Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) – An Office-based Approach Using Mock Drills is organized by Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (FAPD) and will be held from Feb 07 - 08, 2025 at USF Health CAMLS, Tampa, Florida, United States of America.
Course Objectives:
This didactic and hands-on educational experience is appropriate for any pediatric dental staff member interested in reinforcing the knowledge and performance skills requisite to providing best practices for the emergency management of the pediatric dental patient. This course will provide instruction and practice in the performance and communication skills necessary among the dental team while interacting with simulation manikins and various case scenarios involving emergency events in the pediatric dental office. Goals and length of course are adjustable to the practice’s needs. The intent is to interact with the office’s existing emergency management system / protocols, equipment and supplies.
Airway Management (4CEUs)
Lecture (2 hours) Through the use of videos, slides, case reviews participants will review the anatomy of the airway and the physiology of adequate ventilations followed by skills lab stations reviewing basic and advanced procedures

Lecture (1.5 hours): Orientation and Review of Medical Emergency Recognition and Intervention in the Dental Office

This training will incorporate the PALS and BLS curriculum and a PALS written test will be given at the completion of the course. The credentialing authority for PALS and BLS is the American Safety and Health Institute.
