    • To understand the Natural History of Mood Disorders
    • To be aware of the main theories of the pathophysiology of mood disorders and the relationship of these to drugs

    • To understand the relevance of differing pharmacokinetic properties of antidepressants to their clinical usage
    • To understand the presumed mechanism of action of various classes of antidepressant drugs

    • To recognise various stages in the management of patients with antidepressants
    • To understand how various classes of antidepressants may be used clinically
    • To know the details of published guidelines regarding the choice and clinical usage of antidepressants
  • Management of treatment resistant depression
    • To understand the epidemiology, clinical features and associations of this disorder.
    • To be able to construct a rational management plan.
    • To explore the evidence base in this topic and make rational pharmacological treatment plans.
    • To be able to consider what additional investigations or treatments are required.
  • Lithium
    • To understand how Lithium may be used clinically
    • To know the details of published guidelines regarding the choice and clinical usage of Lithium
    • To appreciate the neurobiological underpinnings of Lithium’s actions
  • Other treatments for bipolar disorder
    • To be able to construct a rational management plan.
    • To explore the evidence base in this topic and make rational pharmacological treatment plans.
    • To be able to consider what additional investigations or treatments are required.
