Description:
This course will address both dietary and topical fluoride therapies for children in the context of the changes in the understanding of fluoride mechanisms, benefits in an era of less caries, and recent clinical guidance/best practices. The discussion also will address the mechanisms and effectiveness metal/fluorides. The efficacy of various fluoride therapies (water fluoridation, fluoride supplements, professional applications, and fluoridated toothpaste) in the context of a child’s caries risk assessment will be aimed to help guide clinicians regarding optimizing benefits to their patients. Additionally, the evidence-base for the benefits and risks of water fluoridation will be presented to aid in patient-centered care.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the Academy of General Dentistry Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) through program approval of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. COD is approved for awarding FAGD/MAGD credit.
