Description:
Venous access is one of the most basic yet critical components of patient care both in hospital and ambulatory patient settings. Central venous access (i.e. where a long term venous line is inserted and the tip terminates in a large vein of the neck, chest, or abdomen) is a key component of this practice.

Mater Education’s Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD) workshop provides healthcare professionals with contemporary, evidence-based skills and knowledge in the discipline. Through expert presentations and highly nuanced simulation exercises delivered by our team of experienced instructors, workshop participants are given the opportunity to learn and practice these vital skills.

On completion of this workshop participants will have knowledge and practical competency in:

  • peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC)
  • Hickman catheters implanted venous ports (Port-a-Cath devices)
  • central venous catheters (CVC)
  • apheresis catheters blood sampling from a CVAD
  • CVAD dressing and management of complications
  • simulated demonstration and practice of accessing
  • de-accessing and dressings of PICCs, CVCs and Hickman Catheters
  • effective patient education.
